What is the good age to start piano lessons?

The most common age to start piano lessons is 5 to 7. It is very individual and depends on the attention span and reading skills, but - first of all - your interest in learning.

Should we have a piano at home?

If you are serious about learning piano, you should consider buying a piano or a good keyboard. My beginning students start playing short tunes from the very first week, and they should be able to practice at home.

Remember that a good piano is an investment and it needs good care. For a professional piano tuner in the area, I recommend Matthias Wandler, tel.703-975-7249 http://www.matze-music.com

Do we need to perform at piano recitals?

Performing in front of the audience is a very important part of my curriculum. Beginners often start with duets with me in order to get used to the stage. After while the students start performing with confidence and really enjoy the experience.

Do your students participate in piano competitions?

Washington, DC metropolitan area offers multiple opportunities for piano competitions. Your teacher will recommend participation based on competition's requirements and student's level.

How often do I have to practice?

You will have your weekly home assignment, and I strongly recommend to practice every day. Shorter practice on a daily basis is better than one long practice per week.
