My name is Lena Afanaseva and I am a piano teacher. Born and educated in Ukraine, I was trained in the Russian classical piano tradition. My teaching is rooted in this rigorous and expressive approach, helping students to develop strong technique, musical understanding and stage confidence. I hold Masters degree in piano pedagogy and have over 35 years of teaching experience. In my Studio, I create a warm and encouraging environment where each child receives individual attention. My students perform in a variety of recitals, concerts and festivals locally and regionally and receive excellent evaluations in judged competitions.

Ms. Lena Afanaseva is a registered teacher with The Royal Conservatory of Music program. This program provides a clear step-by-step path for piano study. It includes repertoire, technique and theory and offers students an opportunity to take formal examinations and receive internationally recognized certificates.

About the Classes 

  • Piano curriculum is offered for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels, for both children and adults

  • Classical as well as modern repertoire is offered along with musical theory

  • Lessons lengths 30, 45 or 60 minutes

  • At least 2 studio recitals per year and participation in local music festivals and performances

  • Tuition is paid on a monthly basis

  • There are NO long-term contractual obligations: Classes can be discontinued at 2-week advanced notice

  • One-on-one classes allow for productive learning environment

  • What is needed for the start: A piano or a full-size keyboard for practice at home,  and a spiral notebook for assignments

During an evaluation and assessment consultation, a beginning piano student will be introduced to piano lessons. A transfer student will be evaluated on his/her playing, sight reading, and rhythmic skills. The parent and the teacher will discuss studio program, goals, curriculum, and policies.
